Kyzykin Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Synonym: Kyzykinskaya suite (Кызокинская свита)
Lithology and Thickness
Dolomitic limestone. It is represented by gray layered limestones and dolomites, containing rare layers and packages of marl, as well as gray and greenish clayey and calcareous shales, siltstones (=silty like), gravelites, and cherts. The thickness of the suite is 300-600 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It lies (according to D.A. Starshinina - conformably, and according to M. M. Posokhova - with angular unconformity) on the rocks of the Zaamin Fm.
Upper contact
The Kyzykin Fm is overlain discordantly by the Arpapaya Fm, арпапаятской свиты.
Regional extent
It is widespread in the Turkestan district in the interfluve of the Altikol-Dakatsu.
GeoJSON
Fossils
The deposits of the Kyzokinskaya suite (кызокинской свиты) are characterized by a large complex of organic remains, allowing it to be attributed to the upper part of the Lower Devonian: Favosites brusnitzini Peetz., F. aff. tachlovitzensis Pocta, F. goldfussi d'Orb., F. alpina Horn., Aulacophyllum ex gr. sulcatum d'Orb. Clorinda pseudolinguifera Kozl: Stegerhynchus cf. pseudolivonicus (Barr.), Cymostroghia cf. stephani (Barr.), Carinatina arimaspa Eichw., Pugnax julii Gortani, Uncinulus cf. kekelikensis Nal., Turkestanella acuaria Klish., Styliolina subcylindrica Klish, etc. It should be noted that, along with the named species, the fossil complex of the Kyzokinskaya suite includes forms usually characteristic of both older and younger deposits. To clarify the age of the suite, its study must be continued.
The gray laminated limestones, dolomites, and marls exposed in the upper reaches of the Rasraut, along with sandstone beds, clayey and limestone shales, conformably lying on the terrigenous deposits attributed to the Zaamin suite, and conformably overlain by the dolomitic limestone massif of the Pragian-Eifelian age, should, apparently, be attributed to the Kyzokinskaya suite. The thickness of these deposits is 480 m. They are mainly characterized by remains of the Manak horizon tabulate corals (Pragian stage) Favosites clarus Yanet., F. lazutkini Tchern., F. sibiricus Peetz, Cladipora rectilineata Simps., and brachiopods typical of this stage, Spirigerina cf. supramarginalis Khalf., Gypidula cf. acutolobata Sand., G. cf. hreviplicata A. Volcova.
In this same massif, forms characteristic of the Kungurian horizon are encountered: Gypidula cf. pelagica Barr., Delthyris ex gr. tiro Barr., Camarotoechia famula Barr., Favosites hisingeri E. et H., F. ex gr. forbesi E. et H., Squameofavosites aff. thetidis Chekh., etc.
